Girls Weekend Away – The Foxy Hen

Last weekend, myself and three of the girls spent a fun 24 hours in Kilkenny thanks to The Foxy Hen. They kindly invited us to The Marble City to try out one of their Hen Party packages. What is my idea of a perfect weekend? Fine dining, the great outdoors and catching up with the girls. What did we get up to in Kilkenny? All of the above!

ACCOMODATION

We stayed in the Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel for the night. A hidden gem in the heart of Kilkenny and just across from Kilkenny castle. Our room had the nicest decor, high celings, plenty of natural light and lots of complimentary toiletries. We had the nicest town view which was the cherry on top of our stay.

WINING & DINING

We dined at Harper’s Restaurant that evening. A cosy but lively spot in Kilkenny town. I ordered a steak dish from the A La Carte menu and it did not disappoint. I then shared a chocolate dessert with one of the girls (sorry not sorry) and it can only be described as heaven on a plate. We shared a bottle of Montepulciano red wine. A great start to our weekend away!

ACTIVITIES

The hen party activities kicked off at the Kilkenny Activity Centre first thing the next morning. The centre was only a 10-minute drive from the hotel which was handy. The Foxy Hen organised for us to do Bubble Soccer and Paintballing. Other available activities at the centre include Archery Darts, The Assault Course, Splatball, Body Bowling and more. The lovely owner (Eddie) greeted us at the reception area, where we signed a safety waiver. We then headed straight out for our first activity. I am an adrenline junkie so I could not wait to get going.

I’ve never tried Bubble Soccer but I can honestly say I hadn’t laughed so much in a long time. A challenging sport to say the least but the constant falling over was totally worth it. Who wouldn’t want to be “stuck” inside an inflated bubble ball and knocked over repeatedly. It was so much fun and I think everyone should try it at least once.

Our second activity was Paintballing. Again, I couldn’t wait to get going. We swapped our giant bubble soccer balls for paintball guns but not before we got kitted out in army green overalls and safety helmets. Eddie went over the safety rules and ensured we understood how to use the paintball guns before taking us out to join a Stag Party. We were split into two teams, Blacks VS Reds, and played a couple of different games under the supervision of Josh. We spent the rest of the morning running around, shooting and getting shot at – so much fun. We were covered in paint afterwards but it was worth it. A must!

LADIES WHO LUNCH

Last but not least, The Foxy Hen booked us in for Afternoon Tea in the River Court Hotel. After a quick outfit change, the girls and I headed straight to the hotel to freshen up. We had worked up quite an appetite from all of the running around so afternoon tea was a perfect way to end a jam-packed 24 hours in Kilkenny. We were seated by the window looking out at the beautiful Kilkenny Castle. We indulged in two-tiered cake stands worth of sweet treats as well as a selection of sandwiches, teas, coffees and (of course) glasses of Prosecco. The River Court Hotel is a must not only for Afternoon Tea but for picturesque views too.

There you have it – what I got up to on my latest mini-escape. If you are recently engaged and looking to take the stress out of organising a Hen Party I would definitely recommend The Foxy Hen. A huge thank you to the team for inviting us to experience one of their Hen Party Packages.
