What's in my Beach Bag

PACK LIKE A BOSS…

I’m sure a lot of you have already booked some sort of holiday or are still in the process of planning a fun trip away this summer with friends, family or the other half so i’ve decided to put together a list of must-have travel accessories. After all, there’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and realising you’ve forgotten something or having an overweight bag at the airport (which almost always happens to me). For these reasons smart packing has become more and more essential.

Your aim should be to have a good selection of clothes when you’re off on your travels. As tempting as it is, there really is no need to pack your entire wardrobe. As long as you do a some planning in advance and set aside your holiday wardrobe you will be sorted and ready to roll.

Here’s my list of travel must-haves. The bare essentials that you shouldn’t really be without.

Makeup – When you are away the last thing you want is makeup melting off your face. In hot weather minimal makeup is best in my opinion. The chances are, you will be wearing oversized sunglasses for the most part anyway. Best advice here is stick with makeup that does a variety of things like moisturizer that contains SPF. When I was in Morocco last month I wore Rimmel BB Cream almost everyday. It’s light and contains a high SPF. The key is picking the basic stuff you use on a daily basis; A fresh, clean face and some mascara will do wonders when you’re away without the need to pack everything.

Selfie Stick – They are light, they don’t take up much case space and they will do wonders for your Facebook timeline. Priorities are priorities! My selfie stick is definitely one of must-have travel accessories. It’s handy to have especially if you are away with one friend or just the other half. This will save you having to ask strangers to take your photo and risk having them run off with your camera or Iphone. Go with the selfie stick.

Multi-purpose jewellery – Like me, people tend to overpack when it comes to jewellery. The simple rule for packing light is take some pieces that are ideal for a range of occasions. For example, when I am packing for a trip I usually pick and number of day looks and evening looks and in advance I pick a select few accessories to go with each look and stick to that. Some suggestions would be; a few gold, silver or multi-coloured bangles/bracelets, a silver and gold necklace, a few bling rings and a chunky necklace to brighten up or finish off an outfit.

Sun protection – It is an essential item because your skin will be exposed for any lengthy period of time, as skin cancer is becoming more and more common in hotter climates. I generally stock up on a bottle of suncream and aftersun before I go away and then leave the almost empty bottles them behind when I am flying home to make more case space.

Extension Lead – You’re probably thinking, what is she on about? I always take one extension lead with 4 or 5 sockets away with me. That way when you’re in your room and want to be charging your camera and Iphone at the same time as well as drying your hair and of course heating up your GHD you don’t have to be waiting around. This will also come in handy if you are away with a few friends and have to share sockets in your room. Make sense now? They are so handy to have and won’t add too much weight to your case.

Sarong – I always take my bright orange sarong away with me. They are by far one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own! They can be used as a skirt, dress, shawl or swimsuit cover. Not to mention there are limitless styles to choose from.

Beach bag – A stylish tote or beach bag should go everywhere with you. A water-resistant bag is essential if it’s for the beach and look for long handles so it can be thrown over your shoulder. I have a bold print tote bag from Topshop and I have been using it as a beach bag for years. Bright colours are a great fashion statement.

A Floppy Sun Hat – In almost all of my travel photos for the last couple of years i’m wearing a hat of some sort. They are essential when you are out and about in the sun everyday. They will keep the sun off your face and you won’t have to deal with a burnt scalp at the end of the day. Plus, there are so many fab ones available on the high street right now so why not get one to finish off a day look?

Sandals – Sandals are a great holiday shoe because they are light and can be simple but stylish and they don’t take up too much room in a suitcase, especially if you stick to flats. Simple flip-flops for the beach and a pair of fashionable sandals should be in every girls suitcase.

First Aid Kit –I always have a mini first aid kit packed away just incase. A simple kit with the bare essentials will do. Anti-bacterial wipes, plasters, anti-histamine if you suffer from allergies, panadol or more importantly insect repellent for those pesky mosquitos. This light and compact bag could come in handy for all sorts of dilemmas, and really is something more of us should get used to packing.

E-Reader – E-readers are great travel accessories to have. They can hold thousands of books which will save you from having to lug around heavy books and they allow you to download a copies of your favourite magazines. Vogue by the pool. Why not?
