This morning I went to the River Island AW press day to view their latest collection; so many pieces caught my eye instantly so I had a great time browsing through both the Womenswear and Menswear collections.
Autumn Winter 2015 at River Island encompasses the adventurous spirit of the sixties and relaxed vibes of the seventies, combining elements from these influential era with the present to create a unique, bold and sophisticated collections for the season ahead. Highlights of jewel tones and sugary sorbets add depth to the traditional earthy and sombre palette for a refreshing alternative to autumnal hues.
70’s Luxe combines clean tailoring with touches of pretty Victorian and graphic colour blocking to create an effortlessly elegant collection. Mannish suits in soft caramels are juxtaposed against flute sleeves and bow necklines for a luxe bohemian feel. Key shapes for trousers are culottes and flares whilst skirts take on A-line silhouettes.
70’s Modern Bohemian draws inspiration from 19th century gothic, fusing sultry temptress with urban ethnic for a vamped up folksy look. Embracing black on black dressing, sumptuous lace is teamed with super soft suede and folkloric jacquards with an artisan handloom feel. Details come from fringing, whip stitching on leather and lacing on necklines, skirts and jeans.
Studio 54 inspired pieces in glitter lurex create high-octane evening glamour to form 70’s Glam Rock, the moody base colour palette is injected with flashes of rich emeralds and sparkle metallics. Plunging necklines, mesh panelling and sumptuous velvets create extravagant and interesting dresses whilst jumpsuits become daring in sheer fabrics with super wide legs, fur, skinny scarfs and knee high boots finish off the looks.
Cool urban tailoring in oft hues of oatmeal, grey and camel creates a clean and calm foundation for Urbanist. Bonded fabrics and technical tailoring cloth are essential to the collection, whilst silhouettes become elongated. Outerwear is key with longer length coats and sleeveless jackets featuring throughout, pencil skirt co=ords in luxe fabrications and relaxed checked suiting encompasses the laid back aesthetic.
Parisian street style meets classic rock chick to create Francoise 60s. Inspired by sixties cool girl dressing this trend create tough yet cute looks. Sixties shapes get a contemporary revival with elements of biker chic, using zips and heavy leather to add a rebellious twist. Key looks include pastel sixties inspired tailoring and mini skirts and dresses teamed with sorbet shaggy furs, elements of fun are added with patent ankle boots and quirky patterned tights.
